2015 CRITICS CHOICE AWARD WINNERS & MY THOUGHTS: BEST PICTURE **Boyhood** Birdman Gone Girl The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Nightcrawler Selma The Theory of Everything Unbroken Whiplash Wow! Boyhood is this year’s American Hustle, where it’s a terrific film, but it’s WAY overpraised beyond its dimensions. Boyhood’s better than Nightcrawler, Gone Girl, Selma and especially Whiplash? Not by a long shot!!! Having said that… Hey Oscars, YOU ARE OLD AND OUT OF TOUCH! They have 10 nominations which include Nightcrawler and Gone Girl. You old dumbsh*ts have only 8!!! Ridiculous! BEST DIRECTOR **Richard Linklater – Boyhood** Wes Anderson – The Grand Budapest Hotel Ava DuVernay – Selma David Fincher – Gone Girl Alejandro González Iñárritu – Birdman Angelina Jolie - Unbroken The wrong person won. This should’ve gone to either Fincher or Inarritu. Even though this was Gilroy’s award to win, at least they nominate Fincher. WAKE UP ACADEMY! BEST ACTOR **Michael Keaton – Birdman** Benedict Cumberbatch – The Imitation Game Ralph Fiennes – The Grand Budapest Hotel Jake Gyllenhaal – Nightcrawler David Oyelowo – Selma Eddie Redmayne – The Theory of Everything Even though Jake Gyllenhaal was my #1 pick for Best Actor of 2014, seeing Michael Keaton win is just as satisfying. Hey Oscars… TAKE NOTES! At least they nominate Gyllenhaal. BEST ACTRESS **Julianne Moore – Still Alice** Jennifer Aniston – Cake Marion Cotillard – Two Days, One Night Felicity Jones – The Theory of Everything Rosamund Pike – Gone Girl Reese Witherspoon – Wild Sucks that Rosemund Pike didn’t win. BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR **J. K. Simmons – Whiplash** Josh Brolin – Inherent Vice Robert Duvall – The Judge Ethan Hawke – Boyhood Edward Norton – Birdman Mark Ruffalo – Foxcatcher Perfection! BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS **Patricia Arquette – Boyhood** Jessica Chastain – A Most Violent Year Keira Knightley – The Imitation Game Emma Stone – Birdman Meryl Streep – Into the Woods Tilda Swinton – Snowpiercer THANK GOD it didn’t go to Swinton acting like an annoying loony tune! Either Arquette or Stone won would be the correct choice. BEST YOUNG ACTOR/ACTRESS **Ellar Coltrane — Boyhood** Ansel Elgort — The Fault in Our Stars Mackenzie Foy — Interstellar Jaeden Lieberher — St. Vincent Tony Revolori — The Grand Budapest Hotel Quvenzhané Wallis — Annie Noah Wiseman — The Babadook Another massive robbery! This award easily should’ve gone to Jaeden Lieberher or especially Mackenzie Foy. The wrong person won. BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE **Birdman** Boyhood The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Into the Woods Selma YES! Correct choice! BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY **Gillian Flynn — Gone Girl** Graham Moore — The Imitation Game Paul Thomas Anderson — Inherent Vice Anthony McCarten — The Theory of Everything Joel and Ethan Coen, Richard LaGravenese, William Nicholson — Unbroken Nick Hornby — Wild Once again, TAKE NOTES ACADEMY!!! BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY **Alejandro González Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, Jr., Armando Bo — Birdman** Richard Linklater – Boyhood Wes Anderson and Hugo Guinness – The Grand Budapest Hotel Dan Gilroy - Nightcrawler Damien Chazelle - Whiplash Gilroy or Chazelle was the clear winner. At least it went to Birdman and not Boyhood. BEST ANIMATED FEATURE **The Lego Movie** Big Hero 6 The Book of Life The Boxtrolls How to Train Your Dragon 2 Once again, the Academy can learn something from the Critic’s Choice Awards because they f*cked up badly! Especially in this category! THIS is what the nominations list for this category should be at the Oscars! Despite How to Train Your Dragon 2 didn’t win, The LEGO Movie is an animated film that’s well deserving of this title. According to the Oscars it isn’t! BEST ACTION MOVIE **Guardians of the Galaxy** American Sniper Captain America: The Winter Soldier Edge of Tomorrow Fury Congratulations to James Gunn for making this year’s Avenger movie as well as rebounding from Movie 43. You’re the man Gunn! BEST ACTOR IN AN ACTION FILM **Bradley Cooper —American Sniper** Tom Cruise —Edge of Tomorrow Chris Evans — Captain America: The Winter Soldier Brad Pitt — Fury Chris Pratt — Guardians of the Galaxy Surprised it went to Bradley Cooper. Sheppard — Maleficent Jacqueline Durran — Mr. Turner BEST EDITING **Douglas Crise and Stephen Mirrione — Birdman** Sandra Adair — Boyhood Kirk Baxter — Gone Girl Lee Smith — Interstellar Tom Cross — Whiplash Even though Nightcrawler isn’t on here, at least Birdman won! I hope that it’ll win the…. Oh wait I’m sorry! Academy f*ck you over on that one too as well as Gone Girl! BEST HAIR & MAKE-UP **Guardians of the Galaxy** Foxcatcher The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Into the Woods Maleficent Way to go Galaxy! BEST SONG **Glory (John Legend and Common) – Selma** Big Eyes (Lana Del Rey) – Big Eyes Everything is Awesome (Jo Li and The Lonely Island) – The Lego Movie Lost Stars (Keira Knightley) – Begin Again Yellow Flicker Beat (Lorde) – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 No love for The Lego Movie. Damn! BEST VISUAL EFFECTS **Dawn of the Planet of the Apes** Edge of Tomorrow Guardians of the Galaxy The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Interstellar Surprise Apes won over Interstellar. Still, I couldn’t be happier that it won because that film looks killer. Hey Academy you old dumbasses, did Edge of Tomorrow slip your mind as well?! Overall, not bad. There were some screw ups but the show in terms of its nominations and winners was rather decent. They honor multiple genres in film as well as doing the right thing for the most part. Too bad I couldnt say the same for the Oscars. Im done with the Oscars this year.
