2015 Fall River Calendar Historical pictures of Fall River An aerial view of the mills at the north end of Plymouth Avenue is featured on the cover of the 2015 Fall River Calendar published today by the Fall River Scholarship Foundation. James Rogers, editor of the calendar, has chosen 13 pictures which highlight the activity of the city during the last century. The intention of the calendar is to make these memorable photos of the city available for all residents to enjoy during the year. Several of the pictures in this calendar focus on the business activities of downtown and the waterfront. In celebration of the arrival of the Battleship Massachusetts in Fall River fifty years ago next June, a picture of the Battleship covers the June page of the calendar. Other waterfront pictures include the scenic Bliffin’s Beach on the northern shore of the Taunton River and a construction picture of the building of the Braga Bridge. To commemorate the visit of President Harry S. Truman the Calendar features a rare picture of President Truman, Senate candidate John F. Kennedy and Mayor John Kane at South Park on October18, 1952. The Calendar is dedicated to the memory of Pauline Rogers who played an active role in the choice of pictures especially those that presented the human portrayals of the working class during the first half of this century. Each picture has been chosen based on an important aspect of this city’s social and cultural history. These pictures were loaned from the personal collections of several area collectors of Fall River memorabilia including Christopher Donovan, Patrick Cookson, Arthur Silvia and James Rogers. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will benefit the Fall River Scholarship Foundation and will be returned to the students of Fall River in the form of scholarships. Calendars are available from Silvia Florist, 515 Broadway, Café Arpeggio, 139 South Main St., K & G Krafts, 260 New Boston Road, New Boston Bakery, 279 New Boston Road, Standard Pharmacy, East Main Street, Dunny’s, 9 North Main St., or by mail by calling Jim Rogers at 673-1118 or by email, [email protected].
