2015: G22 Supporters to Mobilize A’Ibom Voters against Jonathan Supporters of the 22 aggrieved governorship aspirants, who boycotted the December 8, 2014 governorship primary in Akwa Ibom, have threatened to mobilize voters in the state against President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election in 2015. The G22 sympathizers, drawn mostly from Eket and Uyo Senatorial Districts of the state, said they would begin anti-Jonathan campaigns in the whole of Akwa Ibom State and beyond should the President acknowledge Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as the PDP governorship candidate. The G22 supporters, have issued the threat despite an unconfirmed meeting between Jonathan and the G22 governorship aspirants scheduled for Monday(today) in Abuja aimed at ironing the contentions arising from the December 8, 2014 PDP Governorship Primary in the state. It could be recalled that 22 governorship aspirants walked out of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, venue of the December 8 Governorship primary alleging widespread irregularities in the process leading to the election. They also accused the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio of manipulating the primary election to favour his choice candidate, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, citing non-accreditation and importation of ‘fake’ delegates as major reasons for their non-participation in the election. Spokesperson of the G22 supporters who pleaded not to be named told our correspondent in Uyo, at the weekend that they are waiting to mobilize Akwa Ibom voters against Jonathan should he(Jonathan) decide to accept the result of the ‘sham’ primary which threw up the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Udom Emmanuel. “We are just waiting and hoping that the President would be reasonable enough to rein in on Governor Akpabio and his Paul Ekpo-led State PDP, who are hell-bent on imposing Udom Emmanuel on the state as governor. “The President should know that 22 governorship aspirants cannot be lying to him that there was no credible governorship primary in Akwa Ibom State. We are not against Udom per se but we are against the process that brought him. “What transpired in the guise of governorship primary was bare-face electoral fraud which should not be condoned by the PDP which prides itself as a party that practises and supports internal democracy. We knew that things would be get only worse right from the November 1 ad hoc ward delegates election. But we can’t take it any longer”, he said.
