2015: Getting down to brass tacks. In other words, to engage - TopicsExpress

2015: Getting down to brass tacks. In other words, to engage with the basic facts or realities. I’ll start. 1. No matter how many TV channels, twitter accounts, streaming video, iPads and iPhones you possess, there are still only 24 hours in a day. 1,440 extremely important minutes, because life is determined by what you pay attention to and what you ignore. 2. For me, FaceBook is the most efficient way to connect broadly. On an individual basis, texting is working better than emails, as I am receiving more than 200 emails per day, and all efforts to manage that have failed. I think when you unsubscribe to one newsletter or blog, that company sells your address to 100 others as a “live” email address, and so the effort to weed out the noise only creates more noise. I’m tired of playing whack-a-mole. 3. I’m ignoring Linkedin. Dropping my account for two reasons. A. I despise any company that purports to provide a service but has no customer service. Even worse, when you take advantage of one of Linkedin’s high-priced monthly upgrades, it is nearly impossible to unsubscribe. B. I don’t know a single person who has benefitted from this site. No one has ever told me that they got a job, made a discovery or a vitally important connection with Linkedin. I am sure that there are people who effectively use Linkedin. There may even be people who love the site, although I suspect that the number is around five, worldwide. 4. I’m going to ignore politics and focus on my primary passion, which is the direct connection we have to life. Our direct connection to others is varying levels of intimacy, and I’m intrigued by the rapid changes we are all experiencing in that realm. I’m going to pay more attention to nourishing the deepest levels of intimacy – my wife and children - and from there, cultivate more meaningful relationships with close friends and associates. I believe FaceBook is a great way to relate to groups of more than 50, and I truly honor and appreciate this FaceBook community. 5. The direct connection we have to the earth is the food we eat. In that regard, I would like to continue and share a dialog that started a few weeks ago with a very passionate vegan, who started out believing that I was just a troll looking for a fight. At this point, we have both decided to explore the other’s POV more deeply, and I am reviewing a few of her key references. If this interests you, stay tuned for updates or start by reading The Metabolic Makeover or my faceBook NOTES on the subject. Please keep in mind that there is no argument against religious or ethical beliefs. No one can tell you that you should not believe what you believe. The discussion here is only regarding the science; the brass tacks of physiology and biochemistry. 6. I’m going to finish editing The Metabolic Makeover audiobook, and have chapters available to download and share by March 1. There. I said it. Onward!
