2015: Guber hopeful urges support for Delta North on March 05, 2014 at 12:55 am in News By EGUFE YAFUGBORHI WARRI — A governorship hopeful in the 2015 election in Delta State, Mr. Ben Enwosa-Williams, has said that ceding the next governorship position of the state to the North senatorial district was more a matter of conscience than a political debate among ethnic groups in the state. Enwosa-Williams, who is already in consultation with political leaders and monarchs in the state, told Vanguard in Warri that the multi-ethnic composition of the state and the demand by Delta North, which has never tasted the number one seat in the state, should be accepted without rancour by Delta Central and South. The retired Air Force officer, who is eyeing the governorship seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, said: “The zoning debate in Delta State has been personalised by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Honestly, the matter is beyond party interest. Whether PDP or opposition, it is only fair that Delta North enjoys the privilege of producing the next governor. “I have heard the contentious judgment by Secretary to Delta State Government, Mr. Ovuozorie Macaulay, on the politics of zoning in Delta and the backlash it has been attracting. But I think the issue is not about party agreement or hard lines. It is about give and take to consolidate Delta’s peaceful coexistence among the three major blocks.” The APC gubernatorial hopeful, however, stressed that Delta North should not, on basis of demanding an exclusive shot at governorship, be perceived as being weak or begging for it, rather it should be seen in fairness and spirit of democracy that the North should be supported.
