2015: Jonathan, PDP sponsoring Boko Haram to stop APC –Amaechi The Sun News / Our Reporter / 23 hours ago FROM CHRIS ANUCHA, PORT HARCOURT Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has accused President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring the activities of Boko Haram in the North-East, with a view to stopping the All Progressives Congress (APC), from winning in the affected states in 2015 general election. Amaechi made the allegation yesterday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, while fielding questions from journalists, shortly after a State broadcast to mark the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC). He gave the names of states where the Jonathan-led administration wants to stop APC from winning as, Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. “The political calculation is that we don’t get votes in those states,” he insisted. According to him, the President is not serious about bringing the activities of Boko Haram to an end because of his political ambition. He wondered why Boko Haram, which does not control resources as the Federal Government, could not be crushed by Nigerian soldiers who have the record of distinguishing themselves at Peace Missions. “Are they saying that Boko Haram that is not controlling oil money is better equipped, better funded?”, he queried. On the Permanent Voters Card distribution exercise, Amaechi urged Rivers people to ensure that they perform their civic responsibility by participating, in spite of various challenges experienced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He said: “As a government, desirous of ensuring sustainable development for our people, and one with the firm belief in the power of the people to make a positive change, we have found it necessary to talk to you on this important civic responsibility. “In spite of the various challenges experienced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), we urge our citizens not to relent in participating in the exercise. It is our hope that the electoral body will do all that is necessary to ensure a hitch-free exercise in the state, and that no eligible voter is denied his card or registration. “Through this participation, we can individually and collectively elect credible men and women into various positions in the forthcoming 2015 general elections. Your Permanent Voter Registration Card guarantees you a voice in governance. “As a government, we will not relent in upholding the tenets of democracy and remain committed to the provision of basic infrastructure and services to our people. Democracy is about the people. Your Voters Card is your instrument to ensure good governance and accountability. Remember the right to vote and be voted for is sacrosanct. We therefore, urge you all to participate effectively in this all- important exercise.” Visit website
