2015: Jonathan plans to declare Saturday The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party and 18 governors elected on the platform of the party will on Saturday accompany President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to Niger State. Jonathan, according to sources, may declare to run for a second term for the 2015 presidential election at the Minna rally of the PDP. Our Correspondent reliably gathered that President Jonathan plans to declare in Minna because of the clout of former Military President, retired General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida; former Head of State, retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar; and former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana. A source, who pleaded anonymity said, the country’s first citizen chose to declare for the 2015 presidential election in the Niger State capital because the state Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, is the Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum. It was gathered that the State Security Committee immediately after Aliyu announced that 18 governors elected on the platform of the PDP will accompany the President to Niger State, went into closed doors meeting, ostensibly to perfect arrangements for the visit. The source said: “We are in high gear to receive Mr. President in Niger State. “We will be honoured to have him declare his intentions for 2015 presidency. “In Niger, we are 100 per cent Peoples Democratic Party, with the feeble opposition party, All Progressive Congress, whose members are going to defect to the PDP when President Jonathan visits.” The source however refused to disclose the names of likely defectors, adding: “Niger State is 100 per cent PDP and the APC is dead on arrival.” Governor Aliyu had earlier made the announcement after receiving the North Korean Ambassador in Nigeria, Jong Yong Chol; and the Chairman of the Inland Water Ways Authority Board, Hajia Ina Ciroma, who paid him courtesy visits at the Government House, Minna. He said all the 18 governors elected on the platform of the PDP will also accompany the President to Niger State. Governor Aliyu however did not give details of the visit but said: “All of you are cordially invited.” The Trade Fair Complex in the state capital is also being given a facelift ahead of the visit, an indication that Jonathan may address a political rally there and declare to run for 2015 election.
