2015: Lamido absent as PDP govs endorse Jonathan ABUJA—AHEAD of his formal declaration for the 2015 Presidential election, governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday unanimously endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole Presidential candidate for the election. Reading a Communique after a meeting of the Governors held at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja yesterday, Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, Chief Godswill Akpabio urged all members of the party across the country to ensure that they work to ensure the emergence of President Jonathan as the sole candidate. President Jonathan President Jonathan With this development, Jonathan is likely to be the sole Presidential candidate at the party’s Presidential Convention fixed for December 6th, just as Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa who is being rumoured to be having presidential ambition was absent, but his deputy was present at the meeting. The meeting which started at 4 pm, ended at 7.45 pm. Present at the meeting were Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Sullivan Chime (Enugu); Jonah Jang (Plateau); Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa); Theodore Orji (Abia); Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe); Idris Wada (Kogi); Liyel Imoke (Cross River); Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta). Others are Ramallan Yero (Kaduna); Gabriel Suswam (Benue); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Saidu Dakingari ( Kebbi) ; Ahmadu Fintiri and Umar Garba (acting governors of Adamawa and Taraba respectively); Mahmoud Gumel, Abdullahi Faskari and Mukhtar Shagari, Damishi Luka, deputy governors of Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto and Nasarawa respectively. Akpabio said, “At the end of the 2014/8 th meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, members of the forum deliberated on a number of issues and at the end resolved as follows: the Forum hereby endorses Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a second term in office and resolved to support his bid for re- election come 2015. “The Forum urges all PDP faithful to support this gesture which should enable the President to become the sole Presidential candidate of the PDP come 2015. “The Forum commands the efforts of the Armed forces in fighting insurgency on the North East and other parts of the country and urges Nigerians and the International Community to continue to co- operate with the Federal Government of Nigeria in order to stamp out terrorism in our land. “On the issue of the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria, the Forum notes the success recorded by the health ministries and commands Mr. President for the effort; thanks all Nigerians for rallying round the leadership of the country and pleads for sustainability of the efforts. ‘The Forum discussed the outcome of the Osun Stare governorship election and salutes the decision of our candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore and all PDP faithful who have chosen to pursue their right through the law Courts. “Finally, the Forum commends our PDP faithful in Adamawa State for the peaceful conduct of their Governorship primaries, and congratulates the Acting Governor, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who emerged victorious at the primaries and urges Adamawa people to give him their mandate in the October 11th governorship election in the State.”
