2015 MDINA CHESS 06 THE PREAMBLE Managing a business is tough and has never been and will never be easy. If you find it easy, it means that you are not doing it right! Staging any world class event is equally daunting. Staging a competitive and tough chess tournament of the magnitude of Mdina Chess, where GM Software can even freeze, will never be easy, not at all. It is nerve racking and agonizing: The planning needs 100% undivided attention. This is why my strategic partners and I will take few days leave from our day to day activities, including Facebook, and go to a faraway secluded place in order to plan for the success of the next Edition of the famous Mdina Chess Tournament. Just as Richard Branson has his own private island, we are commandeering a secluded beach in KwaZulu-Natal, that is accessible by a private jet only. The place is ideal for strategic planning purposes: It is so relaxing and rejuvenating: It is in the middle of the two mountains with mighty trees and two long flowing unpolluted rivers which run parallel to each other. Mother Nature is the only beauty of the area. Everyone who goes there comes back fresh and rejuvenated. All the disruptions fall to the wayside in the face of this natures majesty. “Time spent in nature is time spent realizing that you dont know it all and that you never will”. Author unknown This beach is a place where you only hear the roaring and crushing sound of the Indian Ocean, the screeching sound of the uncommon birds coming from deep in the woods. You see big pink-lavender grasshoppers, clicking in the dry air as they sail away on the hot wind, the burring of their flight as dry and scratchy as the long grass and the baked black rocks. This is a place where the eye only meets bouquets of flowers, gigantic trees and the glitter of the beating wings of the butterflies, where birds of the air sing, chatter and soar in the sky. The following main issues which will be discussed: 1. General problems faced by the Malawi chess community and proposed solutions 2. Evaluation and monitoring of our proposed 2013 strategic implementation plans, which were informed by a comprehensive survey, conducted through mixed research methods. 3. Acquisition of new sponsorship 4. Feedback from Mdina Chess 05 North 5. Whether to proceed sponsoring Mdina Chess or not. If yes, then formulation of an advanced modulus operandi.
