2015: Police Intercepts Over 40 Trucks of Arms and Electoral Materials in Amosuns Ibara GRA home. Heavily armed security operatives on Friday night intercepted cache of arms and election materials concealed in trucks of building materials in front of the Ibara GRA, Abeokuta home of the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. The security men, acting on a tip off were said to have laid ambush for the over 40 trucks believed to be supplying building materials for the ongoing construction at governors demolished building. According to close security sources, some concerned neighbours in the Ibara GRA residence who noticed the heavy excavation going on in the compound alerted the security agencies, wondering what kind of construction could be going on that will involve such level of excavation. The fear of the residence of the GRA was however confirmed when around 7pm on Friday night when they started noticing large number of trucks moving in heavy materials into the site, and they called the attention of the security agencies. In the words of the security sources: as soon as we got the distress calls, our men quickly moved to site, and they intercepted over 40 trucks, asked to inspect the contents of the containers. This generated a lot of argument between some of the police officers attached to the governor who escorted the consignment. He further disclosed that it took the intervention of the police commissioner before the security operatives were allowed to inspect some of the trucks. Our men were shocked with the discoveries. About five of the trucks contained arms and ammunition; over 200 AK49s, 100 locally-made short guns; some electoral materials like items suspected to be Permanent Voters Cards and specimen of ballot papers, including some INEC papers for recording election result. The police are said to have requested the trucks and items be transferred to the Eleweran Police headquatres, but the governors security details around insisted it is only Senator Amosun that can authorise such directive. As at Saturday morning, policemen are still stationed in front of the Ibara GRA home of the governor, while the workmen on site have been charged to speed up work on the excavation, where it is believed the arms are to be kept for safekeeping. As at the time of filing this report, the police Spokesperson could not be reached as his phones have been switched off.
