Submit your idea by clicking on this link for the 2015 UNC Systems Social Entrepreneurship Conference: ecu.edu/cs-admin/pscr/innovate/apply-now.cfm Examples from the 2014 competition: -Wine to water: buy a bottle of wine from a participating vineyard in NC and provide clean water and sanitation to people in need -SOLAR: replace traffic lights with solar powered energy efficient lights to prevent accidents during power outages, accidents, or line damage -Vets Community Fund: web widget designed to help families of active duty soldiers post videos online to request care packages for soldiers abroad -FreshSpire: a mobile app that allows grocers and chains to notify customers when products are marked down or being eliminated. Addresses a need for healthier food at an affordable price and reduced waste in landfills Cash prizes will be awarded to undergraduate (top prize $3,000) and graduate (top prize $5,000) teams. Each university in the UNC System can send up to two undergraduate and two graduate teams. Social entrepreneurs identify large-scale social problems and work to solve them in innovative ways. Like more traditional entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs start new organizations or revitalize existing ones in creative ways. What differentiates this group is a determination to create positive social change, in addition to—and sometimes rather than—earning profits.
