2015 St. Peters Prep (NJ) QB Brandon Wimbush has been a busy guy this summer as he has attended several camps and combines while leaving many big impressions on college coaches. Brandon Wimbush While at Vandy, Wimbush impressed with both his arm talent and his athleticism. Earlier this month Wimbush made his way to Nashville, TN to attend a prospect camp at Vanderbilt University where he was arguably the best QB in attendance and was impressive in front of the entire Commodores coaching staff. His experience at the Vanderbilt camp was something he really enjoyed and a place he wants to see more of in the future. “I didn’t know what to expect when I camped at Vanderbilt but after the experience was over with I was impressed with everything I saw and really enjoyed being around the coaches,” said Wimbush. “I thought I performed well at camp and the coaches seemed to think as well. I thought the camp overall was good and I definitely want to come back down sometime soon to see the campus a little bit better.” Wimbush has received 8 official offers thus far and could be on the verge of seeing more arrive. He recently attended a camp at Ohio. St where he was one of the best in attendance and a dual threat guy the Buckeyes coaching staff is looking for. “The Ohio. St coaches have been recruiting me for a while and at the camp they showed a lot of love and said I did real well,” Wimbush said. “They told me I am one of the top guys on their list at QB and they planned to actively recruit me until I make my decision.” Coming out of St. Peters Prep in Jersey City (NJ), Wimbush hails from one of the best high school prep programs in the Northeast region. His school has consistently put players into the BCS ranks and after splitting time at QB as a sophomore, Wimbush is headed into his junior season focused on making a name for himself as the main guy. “Camp season is over for me now so I am excited about getting to work and getting my team ready for football,” he said. “I am ready to lead my team and become the guy under center my teammates are looking to for leadership. This will be my first season as the starting QB so I am ready for the challenge and I believe I am prepared for it. Our goal is to win the state championship so I am ready to get started to get the journey going.” Recruiting is something that will not slow down anytime soon for Wimbush. His performances this summer on the camp scene has impressed scouts and college coaches so much that he could see his stock rise rapidly in the very near future. Schools like Michigan, Ohio.St, Vanderbilt and others are evaluating Wimbush and are looking to possibly extend offers down the road. A lot of schools want to see Wimbush perform on the field this season before they offer but he feels confident he will show the abilities needed to earn those offers. “I am going into my first year as the starter so I understand coaches wanting to see me perform on the field before they officially offer,” said Wimbush. “Quarterback is the one position you have to be certain on before you offer. I know I need to show a few things on the field to achieve more offers but I am confident in myself and believe I will do everything it takes to achieve those opportunities.” Vanderbilt is a school that piques the interest of Wimbush in many ways. He has a teammate going into his freshman season with the Dores and another top 2015 teammate being pursued by the SEC team. Along with the academic standards at Vanderbilt, Wimbush likes where the program is headed and believes they have the right coaching staff in place to do big things. “I like Vanderbilt a lot because of the combination of athletics and academics and when I was in Nashville I really enjoyed the city from what I saw,” said Wimbush. “Coach Rahne (QB’s coach) has talked with me a lot and tells me I have the tools they are looking for in a quarterback. Tre Bell (Vandy freshmen CB) tells me all the time how much he loves it down there and that the coaching is exactly who they say there are. He seems excited about where they are headed and I really want to stay involved with them throughout my recruitment.” This fall, Wimbush plans to take a few unofficial visits and attend college games. He hasn’t made any official plans as of yet but the Commodores look to at least be one destination he plans to make. “I want to get back down to Vanderbilt this fall for a game and my mom wants to come with me,” Wimbush said. “She really likes Vanderbilt and holds their academic standards in high regards. Going to St. Peters Prep it prepares me for the academics they hold in college. Me and my mom really want a future after football so academics will be a factor in my college plans. “I also want to go to Michigan and Ohio. St for a visit. I like the coaching staffs there and I like the tradition both schools carry. I am still in the beginning stages of my recruitment so I plan to hit the road harder next summer going into my senior season. I am excited football is almost here and I am excited about where my recruitment may go.”
