Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who unveiled the signatories, said the large support gathered is a clear sign that the south/south were in support of the president’s second tenure. “Yes, the South/South has broken the record of the other five regions that have so far asked President Jonathan to run for a second term of four years. Your region has collected 4,150,000- signatures. The signatures can be verified. You can see the names of those who signed; their telephone numbers and local government. “Rivers State, 1,100,000; Akwa Ibom, 800,000; Bayelsa State, 500,000; Cross Rivers State, 520,000; Edo State, 420,000 and Delta State, 750,000”. We are truly grateful. For me, something significant has happened in the South/South. You have shown that you are solidly, solidly and solidly behind President Jonathan, The South/South has beaten our record in the South East, but I can assure you that if I go back to collect more signatures, the number will double,” he said. Speaking the Minister of State for Education, Barr Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, assured the president of bulk votes from Rivers State come 2015. Wike stated that the president has done well in the area of education by building almajiri schools in the north and an oil and gas Polytechnic for Rivers State in Bonny, a feat, which according to him, no Nigerian president had achieved in the past. He said: “Let me inform the Secretary to the Federal Government to tell Mr. President that we in Rivers State are totally for him in 2015. President Goodluck Jonathan should signify his intention for second term. Please tell President Jonathan to declare his intention to run in 2015 now. We can assure him that Rivers State is solidly behind him.” On his part, former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, stated that the national conference convoked by the president will move the country forward, when the recommendations are implemented and called on the president to declare as he deserved a second tenure. For Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, Jonathan has no choice than to declare “Because if he fails to do so, he should never return to the south/south.” He assured of the continued support of the people of Delta State for the president as according to him, apart from the East/West road, which lingered for many administrations, the president has gone ahead to establish a maritime university in the state.
