2015 promises to be a busy year for Our Schools, being an election - TopicsExpress

2015 promises to be a busy year for Our Schools, being an election year for School Board members and BOCS. Our Schools will share information about all candidates but our focus will be on the school board race. We will ask questions and provide pertinent facts. Our individual opinions will be shared and as individuals, on our private pages, as well as likely sharing our top picks prior to the election. We will encourage strong candidates to run, we will meet with all whom ask us to and we will share that with you. As always, we will be encouraging you to ask questions and make your own decisions. We believe strongly in exercising ones right to select and vote for their candidate of choice. Some ground rules and basic acknowledgments: 1. Every sitting board member deserves respect. It takes strength, passion, determination and a thick skin to serve. We may not agree with all decisions but we are very thankful to all that serve or wish to do so. 2. We will not accept personal attacks or make them. We will question platforms, point out the things that we disagree with and call out statements that can’t be supported. We will block personal attacks on this site. Name calling will not be accepted. We want to others to run, to volunteer and to not be afraid to do so. The larger the pool of candidates, the better it is for our county and schools. We ask for your support, there are great people in this county, lets encourage them to participate. Do not beat them down or drive them away. 3. Leaders tend to be charismatic and likable, so lets assume all are. All may bring likability to the table but will they bring knowledge and the values you care most about? Will they do their homework and be effective representatives? Will they be good stewards of limited funds? Will they make tough decisions even when they are not popular? 4. When we question a platform or a statement, remember, we have no issue with the individual as a person. Our concern is their ability to interpret information, come to the most responsible decisions and represent their constituents fairly. Simply put, we are looking for the most qualified candidate. 5. We do not care about political party, who backs a candidate or where the candidate went to school unless that affiliation will negatively alter their performance. School Board positions are non-partisan. We are interested in the candidates commitment to the people, not their part of choice or other allegiances.
