2016 Cadillac CTS-V “V-Series represents the very best of the Cadillac brand – the pinnacle of our design and technical capabilities,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president. With this latest offering in the V-Series, Cadillac has taken the coveted 6.2L Eaton Supercharged LT4 V-8 engine from the 2015 Z06 Corvette and stuffed it in a 4-door sedan mated with their own paddle-shifted 8L90 8 speed automatic transmission. The only parts really missing from the actual Corvette powertrain is the dry-sump oil system and a bit of power off the top, but with 640 hp and 630 ft-lbs of torque on tap, it’s not likely many who opt to drive this car will be left wanting more. Cadillac also retains the cylinder deactivation technology to help maximize fuel economy as well as the electronically controlled limited slip differential system. Along with the powertrain updates, Cadillac has also made adjustments to the chassis and suspension to greatly improve the track capabilities of the vehicle to the tune of 25% more structural stiffness through the use of various strut and body braces not found in the standard CTS models and a revised multi-link suspension system. Cadillac has also updated their Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management system to a third generation with 40% faster dampening response and four driver selectable settings - Tour, Sport, Track and Snow. Helping keep all this power on the road is a special Brembo Braking system with 15.3” rotors and 6 piston calipers up front, and 14.3” rotors with 4 piston calipers in the rear covered by low-mass 19” forged aluminum wheels and Michelin tires specially designed to give the car unrivaled responsiveness and handling whether at the track or on the city streets. All of these improvements add up to net the vehicle a lateral-acceleration of almost 1g on the skidpad. Cadillac has also packed the interior cabin of the car with the latest in wireless connectivity via Bluetooth with Cue and a 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot with connection to OnStar. Audio capabilities are handled by a Bose designed surround sound system with navigation and a Siri Eyes Free text to voice system to keep your eyes on the road. The dash instrument panel also features a special CTS-V specific 12.3” display with a full color configurable heads-up display.
