2016 Junior PGA awarded to Wannamoisett CC 0rn.co/wW2 Junior Boys The 2016 Junior PGA will awarded to Wannamoisett Country Club. ( Photo Courtesy of PGA of America ) By Brentley Romine Wednesday, January 14, 2015 Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, R.I., will host the 2016 Junior PGA Championship, the PGA of America announced Wednesday. Wannamoisett is a par-69, Donald Ross-designed layout that opened in 1914. It hosted the 1931 PGA Championship and annually hosts the Northeast Amateur. Were incredibly excited to bring the Junior PGA Championship to Wannamoisett Country Club, which is such a historic venue, said Derek Sprague, PGA of America president. Were confident that Wannamoisett will test the best junior golfers in the country and produce an exciting Championship. Scheduled for Aug. 2-5, the 2016 Junior PGA will also serve as the final qualifying event for the 2016 Junior Ryder Cup, which will be played Sept. 26-27 in Edina, Minn. The top two boys and top two girls finishers at the 2016 Junior PGA will earn automatic spots on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team, if not already eligible. Past winners of the Junior PGA include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie. This years Junior PGA will be played Aug. 3-6 at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas. Its the second straight year that Miramont will serve as tournament host. Sam Burns and Kristen Gillman are the defending champions.
