2045. Long day. Sitting now in one of my camp spots in the vicinity of Karratha. Have camp spots all over the Pilbara. Early start this morning. 0330 to enable me to get into Tom Price by 0630 to get the electrical side of things on the vehicle sorted. They spent eight hours and I need to head back next week for more. Expensive bill coming up again I sense. Also took the opportunity to bang on two new rear tyres. The last two lasted about 12,000 kilometres. Ordinarily you’d put the best ones on the front but out here the rear chew out much quicker due to weight in back of vehicle. It weights about 3.6 tonne. Tom Price warm today. Ended up hitting the trail at around 1500 and headed up the access road toward Karratha. Think I might have shot a front shock so will need to manage that over next few days until I can get a new one up from Perth. These two were replaced two years ago after a trip to the Mitchell Plateau saw me blow the two front shocks and have the springs jump off the base plate. Hard country. Ended up stopping in to see a friend at Pyramid Station and had a couple of beers. Left with some fresh combination sausages courtesy of a bullock and a ram that saw their last days yesterday or the day before. Yeup, that’s bullock and ram. Tomorrow I have a meeting in Karratha and then its back out to my hill. I can’t give it any more than what I am doing. Even today in Tom Price I got very edgy when I saw the cloud building up and the sparky still had a way to go. But naturally the build-up died a rapid death so I didn’t miss anything. Surely my luck must turn at some point. It must. Time for bed.
