==$20K reward proposed for information on stolen WWII memorial flags LOS ANGELES – Supervisor Michael D. Antonovichs office announced today (Apr. 24) that the supervisor is proposing a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the suspect(s) in connection with the theft of American and POW-MIA flags at the World War II Memorial located at the Lancaster Cemetery. Veterans Court at Lancaster Cemetery was vandalized over the Easter weekend (Apr. 19-20), as first announced in a Facebook post from former Air Force Sgt. Bob Alvis. The Cemetery gets so little respect from the top down and Im sick of all the crap they put up with from the surrounding community over there, Alvis said in the AVLTE Facebook group [https://facebook/groups/AntelopeValleyLettersToTheEditor]. God Bless all the locals, veterans and students that have found a spiritual connection to the most historical place our valley has to offer. An article in the Antelope Valley Press by Editor Dennis Anderson reported that Vandals trashed parts of a World War II Memorial, stole outdoor lighting and fixtures, and, worst, stole an American flag and the flag hoisted to honor POW-MIA troops missing in action or taken prisoner of war. Anderson also noted that in the past decade, the cemetery has evolved beyond its traditional role as the municipal interment spot underwritten by a special service district that is cash-challenged. Dozens of veterans, some whose service dates back to the Civil War, are interred on the grounds of the cemetery at 111 East Lancaster Blvd. The AVPress is asking the public that if anyone has information about the theft and vandalism to call Cemetery Manager Dayle DeBry at 661-942-6110, or the Lancaster Sheriffs Station non-emergency number at 661-948-8466. And Supervisor Antonovich is encouraging anyone with information to contact Sheriff’s Department Investigator Jeremy Edwards at 661-940-3883. The Board of Supervisors will vote on the proposed reward at its next scheduled board meeting. For more information on Lancaster Cemetery, visit their website at lancastercemetery.net.
