21/1/2015 ॐ श्रीपरमात्मने नमः । WHAT IS EMANCIPATION? We saw that मन एव मनुष्याणां कारणं बन्धमोक्षयौ: ।(मैत्राण्युपनिषद-4/11) ।(ब्रह्मबिंदु उपनिषद). The men’s mind only is instrumental in his bondage and emancipation. (Meitranyupanishad-4/11 and Brahmbindu Upanishad.). Your mental attachment with the action is responsible for believing you are bonded. Now question naturally and logically can arise, is the believing that much powerful that it can force on you birth and death cycle forever? Ironically the answer is yes. How? Let us try to understand. Shruti says: दीर्घ स्वप्न वत सृष्टि । This mundane world is like a long term dream. As long as you are not awakened, you are fast asleep, though you are eating, serving, marrying, building palaces, and doing host of other activities, but you are doing all this under swoon, in dream. You are sleeping that is fact. Your unfulfilled desires will invite dreams for you. so whatever you are doing, you are doing in the dream. Your night dream breaks in the morning, but this life dream can break only when you are awakened or when you die, whichever is earlier. If you die before you are awakened, then this dream will continue in other next lives also. so you are sleeping since lives together, since billions of years. It is very interesting that when you are under dream, everything looks to you real. Your intellect becomes defunct, so you lose reasonability and logical power during the dream. If you see that buffalos are flying in the sky in dream, you feel them real. You have no discernment faculty functioning during the dream to question its reasonability. And when you get injured, or when lion bites you, you bleed, and your grief seems real to you. You need to be hospitalized for your injuries of dream as long as dream continues. One more thing you don’t have choice of selecting the subject of your dreams. You have to undertake the subject that comes on its way to you. When you get awakened, you laugh on yourself. That time you know that when you were not awakened, then also you were same liberated and same free as you feel liberated and free when you are awakened. So when there is no physical bondage, there can be no physical emancipation. The bondage is mental so it goes without saying that the emancipation shal also invarily be mental. So when Arjun gets awakened he says: नष्टो मोहः स्मृतिलॅब्धा त्वत्प्रसादान्मयाच्युत। स्थितोअस्मि गतसन्देहः करिष्ये वचनं तव।। (Gita-१८/७३). O Krishna, my delusion has been destroyed, I regained the memory (of who I am) by your grace, I stand firm without any doubt, and shall do as you instruct me (Gita-18/73). Here nowhere we see Arjuna saying, he has been emancipated or freed or liberated. He only says his delusion of being body has been destroyed. He has regained the memory that he is eternal Atman. Now I am resolved and will not waver for war, because my doubt of my doing actions or killing persons has now gone. So this is emancipation. Emancipation is not something that a Guru can give you. Emancipation is your firm belief from within that you are always free and liberated. हरिः ॐ तत् सत् ।
