21 March - remarkable day, but my feelings are mixed, chaotic, - TopicsExpress

21 March - remarkable day, but my feelings are mixed, chaotic, disorganized: - exactly 4 months from the beginning of Maidan; - the political part of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine signed (withou the most important trade/DCFTA part); - first day of spring (and, indeed, the first warm way in Kyiv after a very strange and difficult winter, when not only the weather was not like always). - today, I picked up the extended card allowing me and my famility to stay here in Ukraine, at least one more year. So here is my little (Facebook) confession... I have never ever lived through such a winter like this one. It was the most demanding, challenging, emotional and tragic winter in my life. I wish I would never ever had to go through such times. And I wish this most of all for Ukraine and her brave citizens, among whom I now have many best friends for the lifetime. For Ukraine, with her tragic but at the same time heroic past (and today also the presence). Ukraine, which Tymothy Snyder called bloodlands. I probably still do not fully realise, what we have been following as eye-witnesses. I probably still do not understand the meaning of all those small actions of millions of Ukrainian citizens, who showed the whole world what human dignity is about. And that it is worth fighting for it. Unfortunately, many of them did not make it to today. They are now fighting over there, above us, in the Heavens Batallion. And there are many ordinary people, who suffered during those last four months physical violence, kidnapping, pressure. Many of them, their relatives and friends did not have easy sleep over that passed time. I wish I could conclude with positive remarks, but there are hardly any. Being again a direct participant and eye-witness in many of these processes (including the EU-UA relations) I hardly find any good reason to be optimistic. But I will not stop and give up my own efforts to be on the side of those, who struggle here for their better future, for normal life in own country, for democracy and basic human rights and dignity. If we do not succed here, we will soon have similar problems further to the West, in our countries. Again, the slogan for your and our freedom is valid. But, indeed, there is one major reason to be optimistic - the determination of Ukrainian citizens (regardless their ethnic origin) to strive for all those good human universal values. This is inspiring! So let us all hope that we would not need to go through such a strange winter. Let us all have a nice and calm spring 2014! ;-) PS: Huge thanks to my family for being next to me. These events here made us all much stronger and caused that we are now much stronger holding with each other. So this is also positive, isn´t it? ;-)
