21 years ago today, on August 17, 1993, our son Michael at the age of 6 1/2 months had his first seizure. He has survived and overcome...literally thousands of seizures since. I would like to honor my little 85 pound hero today, who inspires me so much! I would like to pay tribute to him today... a few pictures so you can pick up on his sweet, funny personality as well the perseverance to deal with the effects of his Dravets syndrome and the meds and treatments to try to help him to get better. The seizures, the vomiting, the hospitalizations, the pneumonias, the loss of much of his language, the loss of his mobility, the loss of his ability to eat or drink by mouth (he is nourished by g-tube), the broken leg from a seizure, the scoliosis/then spinal fusion surgery, mainly caused from being wheelchair bound, the special diet attempts, the daily severe headaches...and so much more. It has been a sad 21 years to witness his continued decline, but yet so inspiring as he continues to overcome and bounce back with whatever strength he can manage with his sweet smile, sparkling eyes and amazing attitude shining bright. We are thankful that God has blessed our lives with this sweet boy! and thankful that we still have him and look forward to our continued journey with much hope. This year we have much greater hope with the opportunity for medical cannabis to finally be a treatment that should truly help him. Many families in Colorado with Michaels same diagnosis have had great success with medical cannabis helping, not only in stopping their childs seizures, but also being able to taper the meds that have so many side effects... and the lives of these children and families are totally transformed with much development and abilities returning. We are hopeful for this same success story. For those who havent had the chance to study the truth about medical cannabis... please believe me... this is about a God given plant, that specific strains can help soooo many medical conditions... not just for those with seizures, but other strains can help everything from autism to Alzheimers and so much in-between, cancer, MS, Parkinson, migraines, and so much more. Please look past the politics and be compassionate in letting this be a medical decision between doctors and patients and vote yes on Amendment 2 in November. We thank so many of you for your faithful prayers for our Michael and our family. It has truly been the prayers of many that have given us strength and floated us through many challenging days and grown the character of our family of five. We are blessed
