22 A’Ibom Guber aspirants bow for Udom … As Abuja Court vacates injunction barring Udom Emmanuel A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory presided over by Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf has vacated an exparte injunction which had sought to restrain the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from submitting the name the name of Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial candidate, Mr Udom Emmanuel to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. A PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Ime Ekanem had approached an FCT High Court and obtained an interim injunction restraining the PDP from forwarding the result of the Special State Congress held on December 8, 2014 for the purpose of producing a gubernatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom State. But in his ruling on Friday which lasted about one hour, Justice Yusuf who discharged the earlier injunction held that the order was granted irregularly as there was no urgency for such order to have been granted. The Judge in vacating the injunction also agreed with the Counsel to the PDP, Paul Usoro (SAN) that the applicant had deliberately misled the court into granting the injunction by intentionally suppressing the fact that December 25, was the dateline for the submission of names of candidates to INEC and therefore would amount to a miscarriage of Justice if the order was allowed to stand. Addressing newsmen shortly after the ruling, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem said Justice Yusuf had restored the confidence of Akwa Ibom people in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man. Barrister Enoidem praised Akwa Ibom people for their peaceful disposition despite the provocative injunction which had sought to nullify the peoples desire to see Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the PDP. He said in any contest there was bound to be a winner and losers and advised other aspirants to always rely on the people for a mandate and support Mr Emmanuel whom he said would ensure a resounding victory for the PDP in the state. Our correspondent reports that there was wild jubilation outside the courtroom when the verdict was relayed to the supporters of Mr Emmanuel who had thronged the court premises in anxious expectation of the lifting of any legal impediment to the aspiration of the PDP gubernatorial candidate. Meanwhile, A mammoth crowd turned up at the Akwa Ibom International airport last night to welcome Mr. Udom Emmanuel from Abuja. Mr. Udom took a few minutes to thank the people who came from far and wide to receive him and show solidarity over the court ruling vacating the injunction that barred PDP from submitting his name to INEC.
