22 Jan What a day SO FAR. We finally got her settled down shortly after midnight following the MRI. Then almost on cue at 6:30 ENT coming rolling in like thunder and using flashlights as lightning poking and prodding before Eva could even fully wake up. They come so early because their surgeries start right after rounds. The MRI showed a small pocket of fluids and ENT wants to remove it but they wanted to consult with oral surgery department to make sure the pocket wasnt related to a tooth issue. Because we knew there would be a procedure sometime today she couldnt eat. Around 11am we took her to have a panoramic x-ray but just our luck the process that should only last a couple minutes to almost an hour because the machine wasnt working properly. During the process the swelling on her right side started to bleed probably from the stretching of the of the skin around the swelling. We finally got her back in the room and she was trying to rest when the parade of interested parties started to file in. She had dentists from Truman Medical Center come by, then a member of the PAC team stopped in followed by infectious disease. All this time Eva was trying to get some much needed rest. They werent sure when we wold be able to take her in for surgery but then the issue of platelets came up. She was low and they wanted to give her a transfusion prior to the procedure but the hospital was out of almost all platelets and didnt have any of her type so we wait and meanwhile all she has eaten since around 6pm yesterday is a 1/2 cup of jello, poor girl. Its now almost 6pm and they finally got some platelets and the surgery team stopped by so hopefully within the hour we will be in the OR and Eva will soon be on the road to recovery. This stay has really started off crazy. We hope we are getting the rough stuff out of the way and will be able to sail through the chemo next week with little problems. Problems keep coming up but Eva is having nothing of it, she is ready to kick some STUPID CANCER butt. It will be several hours before we finish this day so we will probably post an update in the morning. Thanks for being here for us.
