22 years ago today I was at BMC Montclair as my Mom was about to go to heaven after a battle with COPD. Dr. Waid Shelton a friend from Banks High School and her pulmonary specialist kept her comfortable. She drifted off into what seemed to be a coma and I held her hand. At about 5;30 PM, she opened her eyes, looked at the wall in front of her bed, and said Mama come help me. She did not appear to be frightened or alarmed, but asked for her mother to come and help her. She closed her eyes and went back to resting comfortably, Her breathing was not labored but was growing more shallow with each passing moment. I had already told her how much I loved her and that when God called her that she should go. I saw her take her last breath and asked Mary to go get the nurse. She came in and put the stethoscope on Moms chest and said that she was gone. She asked us to step out of the room but I asked the nurse to step out and give us a moment as a family. We held hands and thanked God for giving us a wonderful Mama and Nanny and thanked Him that we know that we know that we know we will meet again in heaven. Twenty two years later those hours are still etched indelibly on my mind. She now has a great-grandson and two great granddaughters that she would be thrilled with and two granddaughters in love who are married to her grandsons. Her funeral was on Christmas Eve day but every year I am reminded of the message the angel gave to the shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem Fear not, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be for all people. Today is born in the city of David, a Savior which is Christ the Lord. Christmas reminds us that God loves everyone and will save anyone who will call on the name of the Lord and surrender their life to the only One who can save to the uttermost all those who believe in Him. See you in church and Mama, Ill see you in heaven
