220 - Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand - The weather gods have smiled on me. Phuket is a dangerous airport to land in, particularly in rain or thunderstorms. I had clear skies and a beautiful landing. I would recommend budget airline Air Asia to anyone. Youll recall that I read a lot of negative reviews about the Baramee Hip Hotel (pronounced Bon Ami Hip Hotel). All I can say is WRONG!!! This hotel is fantastic! I arrived at 9:30AM for a 3PM check in - no problem they even suggested I have the free breakfast - the one I had been warned about. Well, breakfast was what Ive received in 5 star hotels. Ham, eggs, potatoes, salad, fried rice with fresh ripe pineapple chunks in it, coffee, milk, juice, toast, jam, chicken. All of it excellent. And the room? Judge for yourself! Even the television has my favorite BBC channels and the best reception Ive had. I went back and checked the room rate just to be sure it wasnt $121 a night. No, its $21. There is also a free bus to and from the beach and Im a block from my favorite meeting place. If everything else holds true to my first impression Ive found the place to stay for a month or two. The only things the reviews had right are that the bbeds are very firm and there is no coffee maker - big deal - I can pick one up at the Tesco mall for $5! There are plenty of outlets, a room safe, a refrigerator, room service, and the bathroom has large bath towels, shampoo, conditioner and good sized soaps.
