#22qAwarenessDays #day5 Learning and development Children with 22q often learn and develop on a different timescales and in a different way to other children. Their intelligence and ability to achieve is no less than other chidren - just different. Many children learn by observing and copying their siblings, peers and parents. Elain has always struggled with this and her development from 1-3 was painfully slow. She still has no speech, just a few very limited vowel sounds. Since starting school however, she has learnt many new non-verbal communication skills. Visual aids and repetition are perfect to help aid development. Here she is counting to 10 in welsh and managing to pick out the correct numbers when asked :-)
