23/09/2013 Today’s Meditation: Nehemiah 4:1-6 Beware of Noisy Distractions But it so happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, that he was furious and very indignant, and mocked the Jews. And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, "What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish-stones that are burned?" Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, "Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall." Neh 4:1-3. Markets are generally noisy places especially in this part of the world. In a market there are many people talking, shouting and yelling at the same time. But in the midst of this terrible lousiness, men in the markets transact their businesses successfully. This is because each person in the market is focused and will never be distracted by the noise. Life is full of noises and distractions. There are many men around whose main preoccupation is to criticize what others do. They are not going anywhere but are very busy criticizing others who have genuine missions. Those who surrender their life’s missions to such aimless critics will end up like them, achieving nothing and becoming nobody. Friend, whatever your mission is in life, it is sure that people will see reasons why you must not proceed; there will be people who will raise endless denigrations about what you are doing. Some will talk out of petty jealousy, some out of envy, some will feel threatened by your success and some will have no reasons at all; they are just talking. In a normal football match, the stadium is always a noisy place. The majority of the people there, spectator and commentators are never players; they are just there to talk. They are there to shout and analyse what each players is doing on the field. A good player must never be distracted with the noise of this mammoth crowd. He just concentrates on his game. Once the victory comes they will change from critics to praise singers. I was reading yesterday on the Facebook that Mikel Obi of Nigeria scored his first goal of Premiership League for his club. Many praise-singing followed. A man who concentrates and make his mark will put a lot of noise into the mouth of spectators. Beloved, beware of distractions. Beware of spectators, speculators and commentators. Focus your attention on your goal. Concentrate on your God and His purpose for your life. Have a godly man who can disciple or mentor your life; a man who can objectively point to you your wrongs and correct you in love. You need someone who will see with the eyes of God and brood over your life. Once you are able to have an objective mentor, close your ears to all the lousiness going on around you. Do not listen to all that men have to say. A man who is listening to everybody at the same time will not hear anything. A man who is giving attention to everything will also not move forward. Even in your walk with God, do not be carried away with all the “new” doctrines and “new revelations” in town. Focus on the word of God and your simple obedience to God. Walk with Him in simple obedience and purity. You are in the market of the world; never allow the noise around to make you a loser. May the breath of the Almighty come upon your life in a great way this morning; may you experience divine strength and health afresh in your life in Jesus name. The right help will locate your life this week in Jesus name. You will move forward by His grace in Jesus name. Have a lovely week; God bless you!
