23/1 Day 7 Learned today that waxed blue cheese may be firm - TopicsExpress

23/1 Day 7 Learned today that waxed blue cheese may be firm and solid looking in the supermarket, but having spent a day in the heat of a drybag in a boat in the sun, it turns to mush. And spreads like melted butter. Still, very very tasty like that. Licking it up from the inside of the bag was sooo worth it. Last day on the lake, early start so I can get sorted in Rotorua for the show tonight. Paddled out just after dawn, beached and loaded by 9. Went to Redwoods, was last there when I was like 8 or 9. Trees are still there. Bigger than I remember them. Walked the 3 hour track, very nice but as a working forest, there was a lot that had been felled and was still unplanted, so some sections where a bit desolate. Nice walk though, would be a minter mtb ride. Went to see Shakespeare on the Lake, which was held at Ohinemutu Marae. Naomis Father was the Minister here when she was a child, so it would have been lovely for her to have come along and revisited this place, but she chose not to. The play was Othello, the venue divine, the players impeccable. It was a very very very nice ending to the day and the week, and the entire trip really. Oh, I almost forgot. Got to kiss Val Dyson on the cheek and say thank you for looking after me when I was 16 and hurt and lost and afraid. Love you Val, you always were the greatest. I still love omelettes thanks to you. Stayed at cosy cottage campground, about 150m in a straight line from the Marae, but about a 20min walk to cross the stream. After a night of shakespeare and a couple of quiet whiskies, a week of paddling and walking, it was just about the longest 20 minute walk of my life. Totally enjoyed the whole thing. Maybe next year I might bring someone to talk to.......Naaaaaah.
