23 December 1979: Stanley Hazelton, 48-year-old Protestant, married with 1 child, a businessman and a Reserve RUC police officer was from Dungannon. The IRA shot Const. Hazelton near the village of Glasslough in Co. Monaghan. He was based in Moy and was ambushed on the Saturday before Christmas. The constable was crossing the border to collect the familys turkey when he was shot. He was travelling on an isolated country road when his car was hit with more than 20 bullets. He was a well known businessman and a garage owner in Dungannon. Three years earlier he survived a bomb attack on his premises. He rebuilt the buildings after they were destroyed by the attacks. He was described by a Tyrone priest as a good neighbour. Res Const. Hazelton was a member of the Royal Black Preceptory and the Orange Order. LEST WE FORGET!
