23 January 1976: Patrick Joseph Quail, 37-year-old Catholic civilian, married with 2 children and a foreman was shot by the UDA/UFF as he was walking along Clifton Street. Mr Quail died 9 hours later in hospital. Mr Quail was the foreman at Farrans contractors. It was said at the inquest that Mr Quail was shot after a chance encounter outside an RAF club. His wife said at the inquest that she and her husband had a row and he left the house. A taxi driver who was driving along Clifton Street said he heard 2 shots and saw someone running toward Carlisle Circus. After making a U-turn, he found a body lying on the roadway in a pool of blood. Mr Quail went out for a walk and got as far as the junction of Henry Place and Clifton Street when he was gunned down by the UDA/UFF. Mr Quail was sitting a few feet from the kerb on the road and was covered in blood. He was moving his arms and legs as if he was trying to get up. Reliable loyalist sources said the UDA was responsible for the killing of Mr Quail. LEST WE FORGET!
