23 July The Central Conservatory of Music is considered as one of the most important musical institutes with high-leveled education in China, as well as one of the first-class conservatories in the world. Founded in the 1960s the Central Conservatory Chinese Orchestra (CCCO) unites outstanding teachers and excellent students from the Chinese Musical Instruments Department in the Conservatory. Recently it becomes very active on the stages both at home and abroad with different performing forms, which makes itself a vigorous orchestra with numerous talents, strength and characteristics. The orchestra has performed in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong. It has cooperated with many famous musicians and conductors. The ensemble performs and provides new compositions every year. The closing concert of Beijing Modern Music Festival in May of 2004 achieved big success. The orchestra recorded many concerts and different types of Chinese music. Establishing its own style and profile, the orchestra is devoted to the development of the performing and composing of Chinese music based on inheriting and carrying forward Chinese culture and tradition. Artistic Director and Conductor of the orchestra is Wang Fujian, Professor of the Conducting Department at the Central Conservatory of Music. Under his baton the orchestra presents a contemporary musical repertoire in traditional Chinese music format, thus promoting the traditional Chinese music development in the new era. He has led the ensemble to attend many international music festivals and academic exchanges in Asia and Europe. He also has conducted many other orchestras for a number of large-scale highly acclaimed concerts. Wang has been invited to conduct many pieces of Chinese contemporary works with orchestras both from home and abroad since 1990’s. Since 2005 he has been a Chairman and Artistic Director of Shanghai Chinese Orchestra.
