23 June 2013 Current Affairs India Won Champions Trophy 2013 On 23 June 2013, India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy, in its last edition, with a five-run victory over hosts England in a final in Birmingham. India’s five-run win over England has given their leader MS Dhoni a rare triple, that of becoming the first captain in world cricket to have won all major ICC trophies. Ravindra Jadeja (33 no and 2/24), declared as man of the match. Shikhar Dhawan declared as man of the tournament .This was India’s second Champions Trophy title having won the first one jointly with Sri Lanka back in 2002. Government Constituted A Committee To Revise Newspaper Advertisement Rates The Union ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 23 June 2013 constituted a committee headed by JS Mathur to review the rate revision of the newspaper advertisements. The committee will also look into different parameters on the basis of which advertisements are issued. JS Mathur is the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Italy Became 5th Country To Ratify Istanbul Convention Italy has ratified Istanbul Convention which aims to combat violence against women. The Italian Senate unanimously approved the 2011 Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women . The Istanbul Convention describes violence against women as a form of discrimination and as a violation of human rights. Thus approval makes Italy the fifth country to actually ratify the Council of Europe convention. UIDAI Won 21st Century Achievement Award 2013 The International Data Group (IDG) Computerworld Honors Program, Computer world Honors Laureate has honored Government of India initiative UIDAI with 21st Century Achievement Award 2013 under the category ‘Economic Development’. The award has been conferred in recognition to the pivotal role played by UIDAI in leveraging technology to change people lives, streamline delivery of welfare services and provide opportunity to people to participate more fully in society. UK and China Signed Currency Swap Agreement On 23 June UK and China have signed a three-year agreement worth 200bn to establish a renminbi currency swap to promote trade between the two countries.The agreement was signed by The Bank of England and the People’s Bank of China.Currency-swap agreements basically allow central banks to swap currencies which can be used by firms to settle trade in local currencies rather than in US dollars. Singapore Open Badminton 2013 Winners Men’s Singles :- On 23 June Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto has won the Singapore Open badminton championship Men’s singles title .Sugiarto defeated Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in the final in Singapore. Women’s Singles :- China’s Wang Yihan of China won the women’s singles title , after defeated Li Xuerui in the final. Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Resigned On 23 June Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah announced his resignation ,following a dispute between the prime minister and his two deputies, Mohammed Mustafa and Ziad Abu Amru, who also serve as senior advisors to President Abbas.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accepted the resignation of newly appointed Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah takes charges on 2 June and he had served only 20 days.
