23 November 1976: Joseph Glover, 60-year-old Protestant, married with 2 children, a businessman was the director of the Ballantine’s timber yard. When he answered a knock on the door, he was shot 9 times in the chest and neck by 2 IRA gunmen. Mr Glover was a former president of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce and former treasurer of a local unionist association and his brother a former mayor of Londonderry. Mr Glover was prominent in local music circles as an organist and accompanist. He served as treasurer of Londonderry Feis. Mr Glover was due to perform in the City of (London) Derry Drama Clubs production of Antigone at Magee University on the night he was killed. The production was subsequently postponed. Mr Glover was a founding member of the North-West Mountaineering Club. He climbed in Ireland, Britain and on the continent. The inquest was told by a detective that it was believed the IRA was behind the killing. Mr Glover was from Troy Park in Londonderry. LEST WE FORGET!
