24/09/2014 We received a call from a member of the public to ask for our Response Officer’s help with a house that had caught a light in Welgevonding complex, Goedemoed. Response Officer Kronstrom was dispatched, he stood down at 00h47 and noticed that the residents were still inside the house. He quickly got the family out of the house as they already had inhaled large amounts of smoke and were struggling to breathe. The Durbanville SAPS and Fire & Rescue was contacted via our Central Station, the SAPS stood down at 00h50 to assist. Fire and Rescue stood down at 01h10 and started to put the fire out, another Fire and Rescue truck arrived at 01h20 and assisted the residents with giving them oxygen. According to the resident the fire had started from a short fuse in the electric blanked in the bedroom, luckily they werent seriously injured! The residents were very impressed with Officer Kronstrom’s quick response and couldnt thank him enough for helping them. Very well done to Officer Kronstrom!!
