24 / Aug / 2013: 11 Afghan universities gain World Council of Universities membership:- 11 Afghan universities gained status as World Council of Universities. “With this status, the capacity of the universities will increase and there will be increased standardization among Afghan universities,” said the Minister of Higher Education. Officials of the ministry said,“Kabul, Pole Takhnick, Talim Tarbeya, Teb, Nangarhar, Balkh, Khost, Paktia, Kandahar, Herat and Bamyan Universities gained World Council of Universities membership and this issue can solve the problem of low capacity of the universities. Obaidullah Obaid, the Minister of Higher Education, considered the gaining of Afghan universities to world council universities a big change and a positive step. He also announced a five-year strategic development plan in higher education that will be implemented after 2014. According to him, this program is sponsored by the World Bank and the International Community at a cost of $342 million dollars. Meanwhile, Aziz Oghlo, president of the World Council Universities announced his collaboration with Afghan universities and promised that he will help these universities in technical and technology sectors. World Council of Universities has members in 26 countries and include 150 universities of the world.
