24 August 2014 Peter, in First Peter chapter two, wrote, “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief CORNERSTONE, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Now this brings us to the question: “What is a CORNERSTONE?” A “CORNERSTONE” was the “FIRST STONE” laid in the “FOUNDATION” of a building. The builders would lay a “STONE,” perfectly square or rectangular, on solid rock or hard packed earth and then construct the building, taking every measurement back to that “STONE.” If they checked all of the measurements back to that “STONE” the building would be straight and level. Paul, writing in Ephesians about us being the “BUILDING OF GOD,” said that we are “…built on the FOUNDATION of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief CORNERSTONE.” This means that Jesus Christ is the one from whom all measurements are taken in the construction of our “SPIRITUAL HOUSE.” Child of God, Jesus is your example. He is the One in whom you have believed and He is the “CORNERSTONE” of life to you. As you build upon the “CORNERSTONE,” I challenge you to take all of the measurements of your life back to the “STONE” Jesus Christ. If you do, God’s building will be straight and level. “According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the FOUNDATION, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.”
