24 January - Day 7 of 30 Days of Love: Love Your Mother Earth Friday Feed the Birds on This Cold, Cold Day Many wild birds’ habitats have been severely threatened by human development. Some species of songbirds have been reduced by over 95% since the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring 51 years ago. Get some birdseed, preferably from a store that specializes in wild birds. You don’t need a fancy bird feeder – just throw some on the ground in a clear spot away from neighborhood cats. (And if you have a cat, please don’t let it roam; cats are responsible for many deaths of birds.) If you don’t have a yard, you can put a saucer on the balcony or outside the door.
