24 Weeks Pregnant – Your Body You’re starting to really feel - TopicsExpress

24 Weeks Pregnant – Your Body You’re starting to really feel the weight gain now. You may also begin to feel some achiness in your lower abdomen. As your uterus stretches and baby gets bigger, the ligaments in the lower part of your uterus must stretch, too. This stretching can cause some pain. Once it starts, it will likely continue until baby is born. Another common ailment that often begins at this stage of pregnancy is constipation. Your body processes food more slowly now to allow baby more time to absorb nutrients. But, this slowing down of the digestive process can lead to constipation. Drink lots of water and freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, and be sure to get plenty of good fibre in your diet. It’s important not to ignore constipation, as it can lead to haemorrhoids (and/or anal fissures). You may also be experiencing some symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. The usual symptoms are numbing in the wrists and fingers. These can be quite annoying, but they will disappear when baby is born. 24 Weeks Pregnant – Your Baby This week, your baby probably weighs between 380 to 590 grams, and is about 29-32 cm long. Baby’s eyelashes, eyebrows and hair are present. But, they don’t have any pigment yet, so regardless of whether she’ll wind up being a blonde or a brunette, her hair is white right now. Her face is filling out as she’s adding quite a bit of fat. Baby’s bones are also growing and getting harder and stronger. This, in addition to the fat she’s adding, is why you seem to be gaining weight more quickly. It’s time to get start getting ready for her arrival by thinking about how you’ll clothe that cute, chubby baby, too. Talk to your friends about the clothes they preferred for a newborn – many mothers love the flexibility of onsies (wondersuits). Consider, as well, the season of the year as you’re picking out clothes. Baby doesn’t need lots of different kinds of clothes during those first weeks, but he’ll need lots in terms of quantity. Be prepared to need at least two outfits a day for a while. It’s a good idea to have some clothes already washed in fragrance free laundry detergent before you bring him home
