25 April 1993: David Hugh Martin, a Protestant civilian, married - TopicsExpress

25 April 1993: David Hugh Martin, a Protestant civilian, married with 3 children was a former UDR soldier. Mr Martin was driving home after a night out with friends when an IRA booby trap bomb exploded under his car near Kildress. Mr Martins car was a distinctive Red Audi with an English registration. A year before his death, Mr Martin left the UDR and was a member of the Pomeroy True Blues Orange Lodge. The IRA made allegations that Mr Martin had loyalist connections, an allegation that the Martin family denied and said in a statement that David Martin was an innocent man who lived for his wife and children. Rev. William Bingham, the Pomeroy Presbyterian minister said the IRA leaders who made claims were liars. I have talked to the family and they have said that no way was David involved in UVF activity. The family are numbed, devastated and outraged. The Church of Ireland Archbishop, Dr Robin Eames said: there is no doubt that clergy believe there is a definite sectarian element to the IRA campaign in certain areas. It is being targeted at Protestants who own the land. LEST WE FORGET!
