25 DECEMBER 2014 Christmas Message from Presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OFFICIAL STATEMENT 25 December 2015 Christmas Message from Presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema Fellow Zambians I wish you all a Merry Christmas. I hope that each and every one of you finds cheer in the festive season, whether in the company of family, friends, neighbours or colleagues. Christmas is a time to be with family, and it is a time to uphold peace and unity. It is a time for being thankful, and a time for prayer. This Christmas we find ourselves at a crossroads and in the midst of intense political activity. The time to step back and refocus on religious matters, if only for a short while, is therefore a welcome and necessary interval that should give us all the space and time to reflect on where we are as a nation, and how we can better channel our Christian values into delivering positive change. As I take some time to reflect, the importance of hard work, unity and peace is uppermost in my mind this year. We need all these things to drive Zambia forward. It is imperative that we all pull in the same direction together and resist provocation by those who would see us divided. I am mindful of the sacrifice made by our Lord that we could have so much “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”. (John 3:16) Christmas is also a time for remembering those less fortunate than us, and the poor and vulnerable in society. Fifty years after Independence like many of you I am dissatisfied with just how much of the population this represents. Whilst being thankful for what we do have this year, I think we owe it to ourselves and to Zambia to say that next year should be a year for change and moving forward. That when it comes to Christmas next year we will be making progress in the right direction, and although there will remain a lot of work ahead of us we can celebrate Christmas together with a shared confidence in Zambia’s future. “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His loving kindness is everlasting”. (PSALMS: 107:1) Thank you and God bless. Hakainde Hichilema UPND President
