25 Indian workers in Kuwait arrested for murder AUG 29 Hundreds of Indian workers in Kuwait have sent an SOS to the Narendra Modi government after the arrest of 25 colleagues for allegedly murdering two Egyptians. The workers say they are being hounded by the police and confined by the firm that had employed them. They have pleaded with PM Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to rescue them. Reports suggest the 25 workers were arrested by the Kuwait police after a fight between two groups, in which two Egyptians died. Over 500 workers, mostly from Punjab and Rajasthan, are reportedly stuck in the compound of the firm, and they say they are not being allowed to go. “Our firm is harassing us. I appeal to the Indian government for help. About 700 of us working here are being targeted,” said the workers in a video. The workers said the police were discriminating against them, mainly because of the language problem. In Punjab, worried families have asked the government for help. “He called to say a terrible fight had broken out after some friends of his were jailed. A lot of Indians were beaten up. He said no one heard them out and they were jailed without being heard,” said the wife of a worker. The Indian foreign ministry says it is keeping a close watch on the situation. “We have immediately taken action. Our mission in Kuwait has written to the Kuwaiti foreign ministry and sought their assistance. We’ve also requested for consular assistance to any Indian who needs it. Our mission has gone to all hospitals there to check the welfare of Indian nationals there. I can confirm that no Indian national is in any danger,” foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told reporters here.
