25 years ago today, my little Preemie son Andrew was born, 2 1/2 months early.... He was due on October 23rd, but he decided he wanted to be a sunny summer Leo, not a fall Scorpio.... I had been flown down to Peoria in a helicopter a few days earlier when my water broke too early... and it was a very stressful and challenging time full of worry and fear, hoping he would be all right... He was born on a very hot and misty morning as the sun was rising, with hair as blond as corn silk and not a sound or cry.... the ran to wheel him away, and I had to beg them to bring him to me before they took him... and I reached out and held his tiny hand for the first time, and he looked at me... looked into me, and I have never stopped loving him since.... It would be six agonizing hours before I could see him again... To the astonishment of his doctors, and the 15 specialists that were there in the room when I gave birth to him, he was strong and pink and breathing on his own, a strong little baby with a strong heart and a strong will. He would remain in the hospital for several weeks, because he was to small to drink on his own; he was fed those early days through a tiny tube that went from his nose to his tummy.... but he was all right. That little boy turned 26 today, a strapping 6 foot 3 tall , blonde, hardworking and stubborn young man... beautiful and determined and still as much a part of my heart as the day I first laid my eyes on him. Andrew, I love you, now and forever... you will always be my strong and silent moon outshining the stars in the sky....
