25th Government Jubilee Issued by Liechtenstein Post! Rating: 5.0/5 On 13 November 1989, after the death of his father Prince Franz Joseph II, Prince Hans-Adam II assumed the office of Liechtenstein’s head of state and the reign over the Princely House of Liechtenstein. On the 25th Jubilee of His Serene Highness the Philately is publishing the special issue stamp entitled “Prince Hans-Adam II” (value: CHF 2.00) designed by Hans Peter Gassner. Today’s reigning prince was born as the eldest son of Prince Franz Joseph II and Princess Gina on 14 February 1945 into one of the oldest noble families. He grew up in Castle Vaduz with his four brothers and sisters. After completing his grammar school education, obtaining the Swiss advanced- level diploma and the German Abitur certificate, he started studying Business and Economics at the University of St. Gallen, which he completed in 1969 with the degree of Licentiate. In 1967, Prince Hans-Adam II married Countess Marie Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau. They have four children and meanwhile 15 grandchildren. In 1970 Prince Franz Joseph II entrusted his son with reorganising the management and administration of all the assets belonging to the Princely House. In 1984, the 45th year of his reign, Prince Franz Joseph II appointed Prince Hans-Adam II his permanent representative and entrusted him with conducting the affairs of state. Following the death of his father 25 years ago, Prince Hans-Adam II assumed the regency. Even before succeeding his father, Prince Hans-Adam II promoted an independent foreign policy for Liechtenstein. Under his leadership Liechtenstein successfully became a member of the United Nations (UNO) in 1990 and the European Economic Area (EEA) in 1995. On 15 August 2004 Prince Hans-Adam II appointed his eldest son, Hereditary Prince Alois, his representative for exercising the sovereign powers due to him, in preparation for his succession to the throne.
