26-06-2014 – Gospel of the Day Prayer of the day Lord our God, grant us through life the grace to love you , for ever unceasingly to drive those firmais in your love. It is not anyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22. When the day comes many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, work many miracles in your name? 23. Then I shall tell them to their faces: I have never known you; away from me, all evil doers! 24. Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock. 25. Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock. 26. But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand. 27. [Psalm Of Asaph] God, the pagans have invaded your heritage, they have defiled your holy temple, they have laid Jerusalem in ruins, 2. they have left the corpses of your servants as food for the birds of the air, the bodies of your faithful for the wild beasts. 3. Around Jerusalem they have shed blood like water, leaving no one to bury them. 4. We are the scorn of our neighbours, the butt and laughing-stock of those around us. 5. How long will you be angry, Yahweh? For ever? Is your jealousy to go on smouldering like a fire? 6. Pour out your anger on the nations who do not acknowledge you, and on the kingdoms that do not call on your name; 7. for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his home. 8. Do not count against us the guilt of former generations, in your tenderness come quickly to meet us, for we are utterly weakened; 9. help us, God our Saviour, for the glory of your name; Yahweh, wipe away our sins, rescue us for the sake of your name. 10. Why should the nations ask, Where is their God? Let us see the nations suffer vengeance for shedding your servants blood. 11. May the groans of the captive reach you, by your great strength save those who are condemned to death! 12. Repay our neighbours sevenfold for the insults they have levelled at you, Lord. 13. And we, your people, the flock that you pasture, will thank you for ever, will recite your praises from age to age. 2 Kings, 24 8. Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem. His mothers name was Nehushta daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. 9. He deported Jehoiachin to Babylon, as also the kings mother, his officials and the nobility of the country; he made them all leave Jerusalem for exile in Babylon. 16. All the men of distinction, seven thousand of them, the blacksmiths and metalworkers, one thousand of them, all the men capable of bearing arms, were led off into exile in Babylon by the king of Babylon. 17. The king of Babylon deposed Jehoiachin in favour of his paternal uncle Mattaniah, whose name he changed to Zedekiah. Commentary on the Gospel PRUDENCE AND BLUNDER It is misleading to think opting for a perfect adherence to Jesus only because, out of the mouth, invoking his name, thinking to be showing signs of faith. Certain life circumstances further test the robustness of this membership. Only then will it be possible to know whether it is a well-founded or not option. The option for Jesus embodies itself in the practice of his words. Who listens to them and tries to abide by them his life is on track. No storm, no matter how violent it may be, will be strong enough to dissuade him from his trust in the Lord and His Kingdom. The storm will no have shaken his faith. Prudence led him to build his life on solid foundations. Well other is the fate of those who is satisfied with an apparent piety, in which self-indulgence and self-love remain untouched. To be proved, will not be able to resist in the face of multiple molestations of the tempter. His Christianity facade will be unmasked, making it clear that he was far from being a disciple of Jesus. For being stupid, not built on a Christian foundation indicated by Master life from suffering the consequences of their lack of discernment. Every disciple is called to do a serious review of its life, to make sure youre acting with prudence required, or is being led by folly. prayer Spirit of prudence, I know my Christian life build on the foundation of Jesus words, in order to overcome the trials of life.
