26/5/2014 16:45 White Watch D Class Lifeboat Launched at request of HM Solent Coastguard in response to a 999 call from a member of the public on the beach at West Wittering by the Easterly red flag they reporting two persons in the water adjacent one of the sandbars that run NE/SW from from the West Wittering beach. Lifeboat launched and made way to scene after a quick inspection two snorkelers were spotted in the general vicinity but no other obvious casualties. Solent were contacted and they called the first informant to confirm that the lifeboat was in the vicinity where they had seen persons in the water - and this was confirmed – the lifeboat was stood down . The Lifeboat helm also spoke to the snorkelers to request that in the future they call Solent Coastguard if they intend to continue to swim in this vicinity.
