26 January 1975: Edward Wilson, 16-year-old Protestant civilian - TopicsExpress

26 January 1975: Edward Wilson, 16-year-old Protestant civilian was a Corporal in the Air Cadet Force. He was killed by a 10lb IRA booby-trap bomb when it exploded as he opened an inner door of an Air Training Corps hut on the Cavehill Road. The explosion slightly injured 5 other boys on the grounds of the Cavehill Primary School. The scene was described by a neighbour: the ATC building was in a shambles. One wall was completely gone and wreckage was scattered over a wide area. In a corner I saw a body trapped underneath a pile of rubbish. It was a horrible sight and obviously the lad was dead. His clothes were ripped to shreds. Blood was everywhere. The bombers broke into the hut through the rear and attached the bomb to the adjutants office. The IRA claimed responsibility for the bombing. CPL. Wilsons father said: I was brought up in a mixed street --- there are good and bad on both sides. Edward had a real love of life and it centred around the Air Training Corps and his wish to join the family steeplejack business which his grandfather started. It is tragic that a young man should have his life taken away like this. LEST WE FORGET!
