The advanced telescope will primarily engage in detection of extra-terrestrial life through space going as far as 30 light years. Key Points --------------- * Its full name is Advanced Technology Large Aperture Space Telescope (ATLAST). * The telescope, expected to be 2,000 times more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope, will have a huge mirror measuring 20 meter in diameter. The telescope will also be about four times larger than the 44 feet- Hubble Space Telescope. * Since it is too heavy to be launched to space from earth via rocket, It will be assembled in space itself. * It will explore other planets for the life-nurturing elements like water, oxygen and ozone to analyze the presence (if ever) or absence of life in a given territory.
