26 November 1974: Thomas Trevor Hamilton, 34-year-old Protestant civilian, married with 2 children and a shop owner was shot at his shop at Duncairn Gardens close to his home at Ilchester Street. Two gunmen opened fire in front of Mr Hamiltons 8-year-old daughter and was hit twice in the body. He died almost immediately. When the shooting started the daughter threw herself behind the counter. Police said this action most likely saved her life. She was badly shocked but was unhurt in the attack. In a statement by a housewife, she said that she heard 3 shots and then saw a blue 1100-type car turn on 2 wheels and speed of towards Hallidays Road. A detective told the inquest that suspects were questioned but no one was made amenable. No group claimed responsibility for the attack and there was little doubt republicans carried out the attack. Police described the killing as another useless sectarian murder. LEST WE FORGET!
