26july ...KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS 07/07/1999 Captain VIKRA BATRA Voluteered to lead an attack to recapture Point 4875 from where the enemy was interfering in the operations of 13JAK rifles.The task involved an assault along a narrow ridge to clear heavily fortified feature.Personally leading the assault,Captain Batra engaged the enemy in a fierce hand -to- hand fight and killed five enemy soldiers at point-blank range.During the assault he sustained grievous injuries but refused to yield ground.He rallied his men,pressed home the attack and finally succeeded in achieving whad had seemed to be a militarily impossible task. Earlier .on 20th June Captain Batra launched a daredevil assault on point 5140 and recaptured very important peak.When asked about his reaction on victory he said...... ये दिल मांगे मोर ... and it became an iconic battle cry that swept across India during KARGIL WAR. For his unparalleled feats of conspicuous personal gallantry, exemplary junior leadership and selfless devotion to duty.Captain Vikram Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.Indias highest gallantry award.
