26th October 2013. Night Shift Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Garry Smith Katherine silliness continues - Sgt Freson Katherine and I agree with John Steinbeck who said “Ive seen a look in dogs eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts. “ In the late evening of Saturday night, Katherine Police observed a 6 wheel All Terrain Vehicle being driven along Second Street in Katherine. The ATV was travelling along dark roadways with no lights on, when it was stopped by Police. The driver was found to be highly intoxicated, with a half carton of beer on the seat next to him. The 35 year old male was arrested and taken to the Katherine Watch House where he refused to provide a sample of breath for Analysis. He will be charged in relation to refusing to provide a sample of breath, and driving an unregistered / uninsured vehicle. His licence will be immediately suspended. Katherine Police were amazed and the foolishness of this individual and remind the public that driving ANY vehicle on our roads while intoxicated will not be tolerated.
